Library
The library is a well resourced environment, where each child is encouraged to develop a love of reading. It is one of the favourite spaces of students in our school: you can always see children there, browsing the shelves for interesting new books or sitting on a beanbag, completely lost in a good story. During classes the library provides a place for collaborative learning and for developing independent research and literacy skills. We have a wonderful and rich collection of fiction, non-fiction, reference and resource books with almost 6000 titles for learning and for the pleasure of reading. Our library is run by dedicated members of the teaching staff and a fantastic team of enthusiastic parent volunteers. Our collection keeps growing year by year with new unit books for our program of inquiry and age appropriate fiction books for each year group. Parents have also contributed to enriching our library by donating native language books so our students can read in their mother tongue as well.
ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ABOUT OUR LIBRARY
Opening Times
Each campus has set library times when books can be checked out by students with the help of a library volunteer.
At Nieuwelaan: Monday to Thursday from 8:30 – 9:00 and Friday from 14:45-15:00.
At Jaffalaan: Friday mornings.
Borrowing Books
The library currently carries 2 categories of books.
1) Books that need to be checked out:
Fiction books (marked with a green label)
Non-fiction books (marked with a white label)
Picture books (marked with a yellow label)
These books need to be returned in 2 weeks or re-issued for another 2 weeks. It would be helpful if parents could remind their children about their books and due dates to keep everything updated. The library will send reminders if the book is overdue. If the library book cannot be found and it is lost, we will kindly request that you replace it or reimburse the school library.
2) Books that don't need to be checked out (children usually change these every day):
Reader books (marked with a solid color label on the spine)
Please make sure that these books come to school every day.
As Dr. Seuss says:
"The more
that you read,
The more
things you will know.
The more
that you learn,
The more
places you will go."
Please support us to bring up children who will be lifelong bookworms!
Parent volunteers are welcome and donations of books are also appreciated.
